I built a budget pc about a year ago and i was debating about upgrading my cpu, would it be worth upgrading to the i7-4790k in a year or will i be fine for awhile. My graphics card is a gtx 960 2gb.
That CPU will be fine for quite a while; it can run every GPU, and is powerful enough for CPU-heavy games like Arma etc..
Also, i assume you're using a H81 motherboard, at least not a Z97, which is not required for an i7, but strongly recommended.
I'm using a b85m motherboard, and the i5 will be fine for awhile?
Yes. By the time your CPU gets outdated or too weak, there are much newer CPU's with better technologies and architectures. Don't worry about getting the 4790k.
It's technically possible that you could run into CPU-limited situations, but most games (even the newest) will still have minimum framerates above 50FPS in CPU-limited scenarios. I doubt you're shooting for 120fps or 144fps with a GTX 960, so the i5 is likely well matched to your needs for now.
