Question Upgrade from i5 4690k

i5 4690k
GTX 1070
16 GB 1600 mhz DDR3

I'm planning to do an upgrade by the end of this year or early next year.

I use my PC for gaming, nothing else . I managed to find someone selling a 4790k at a decent price, and was wondering if that's more practical than getting a Ryzen 5 2600/3600.

Depends on what games you play. Going from a 4690k to a 4790k with your current set up will gain you about 10 percent difference in performance . Going from a 4690k to a Ryzen 3600 will gain you around 25 percent or more difference in performance in work load, but if you keep the same gpu you may not see much increase in fps than the 4790k since the gpu does most of the gaming work.
