Question Upgrade from i54460 to i74790k make sense on current system?

Hello,

I just upgraded my Graphic card and Im thinking about upgrading my CPU.

Current system is:

Intel i54460
Gigaybte H97-D3H
16GB RAM
radeon rx570
500GB SSD
550W NT

There is not much room to upgrading from what I see outside of the CPU going to a i74790k. I dont want to buy a new system but I also dont want to spend money to get maybe 5FPS more. Would it make sense to upgrade?

If you can get a 4790K for very cheap, it does make sense. Hyperthreaded Quad Cores still do pretty well in gaming.

But if not, you'll want to do an entire platform swap.

Yes either a i7 4770 or a 4790 would be a good upgrade, but like you say you'll probably only get 5FPS more in some games, but when multi tasking the i7 would pose a significant advantage. If you just use it for games I wouldn't upgrade unless you can get an i7 for very cheap.

Thanks a lot guys. Yes its expensive to find. I found some stuff used on ebay and such sites. Will try to get a cheap one there.

Another different question would be, could I overclock my current CPU? Maybe buy a good CPU cooler and OC a bit? Or this CPU I have isnt OC ready? I have some experience 10 years go Overclocking but Im not at the current hardware knowledge to know if its possible now.

I made a mistake. I meant I have: "Radeon RX570" not the mish mash I posted lol. Im not used to talk about PC hardware xD
