Question Upgrade from R7 5700x, 3600MHz to i5 12600K, 6000MHz?

I recently just got an ROG Strix B660i for $160 (converted from PHP) when my initial plan was to get the Strix B550i solely just for the aesthetics hahah. Is it worth the upgrade from my R7 5700x, Strix X470i, Dominator 3600MHz to an i5 12600KF, B660i, and Dominator 6000MHz for about $120 net expense compared to getting a Strix B550i for $45 net expense?

Additional info - The only benefit I would get from a B550i would be PCIE Gen 4 and the 5700X3D being my last upgrade option for the platform (and ofc a better appearance which is what I wanted in the first place). With the B660i, the way I see it, I get PCIE Gen 4, DDR5 ram, upgrade path up to 14th gen, and an even juicier look to it.

I still have the option to back off, which is why im asking now before I fully commit and get the cpu and ram. I also have the option to get a cheaper ram kit to sacrifice the looks for a total net expense of $55 compared to the b550i at $45.

May I know why you wouldn't do it? With the benchmarks I've seen so far, the 12600k seems to perform better than a 5800x, and is even faster with DDR5 6000. Let me know what I'm missing out on here, thanks!

Because they both take your wallet every 6 months, I have a computer with a 5900x, recently I got a 5700x (it's better cpu than 5800x) and I also made one with the 3600xt I had, all with a 550 motherboards, I have never had any problems with any of them (all are below in my signature) and from memory I don't change and I don't put anything else except rip

Are you dissatisfied with your old 5700X's performance. Do your apps/programs warrant a faster system?

If you can afford it, build the new 12600K system and keep/upgrade the old 5700X. Best of both worlds. You can never have enough computers. A spare system is always handy in emergencies.

I’m actually not at all dissatisfied with my current system. I just have a considerably strong passion for having a good looking sff build which was why I decided to get the strix B550i in the first place. It just so happened that a nice deal for the B660i came up, which to me brings more avenues for further upgrades if I ever do need them.

With all that I’ve seen, the 12600k seems to be at par/ a bit better than the 5700x especially when it comes to productivity.

Is there anything I could possibly lose here? Is it not worth the 80-120 bucks for the DDR5 system? I would love to know, thanks!

Yes, go for it. Spend the money and enjoy the new system.

I look at Puget Systems video editing software benchmarks and most of the time they recommend a 14900K, but I eventually chose a 7950X because it consumes slightly less power. The computer case I used has only two 120mm fans at the front, plus one 120mm and one 80mm at the back. A 14900K would have "cooked", the 7950X just runs warm.

I have an equal number of Intel and AMD builds and have no particular preference for either manufacturer. As it happens, my last two systems have been AMD (3800X and 7950X), but I also run Intel desktop and Xeon CPUs.

a good looking sff build

I'm don't know what SFF case you're using, but I fitted a cheap ThermalRight SI-100 Cooler on a Xeon LGA-2011 build and also in a home cinema low profile case. The SI-100 is a versatlle 120mm air cooler that fits many CPU sockets. If you prefer Noctua, they have several low profile coolers for a nominal 125W 12600K.
