[SOLVED] Upgrade from Ryzen 5 2600 to 3600. Noticeable difference?

Solution
I personally wouldn't consider 10-15% higher FPS worth $200. I'd set that money aside for a Ryzen 4600 which should perform even better thanks to all cores in a CCD residing on a single CCX with direct access to the entire L3 cache pool on top of all core-wise and likely IOD improvements.

$190 - $90 "Average used resell of the 2600"

Is a gain of 25-45 fps worth $100 now 🤔 plus the benefits outside of gaming? I think that's up to the OP to decide.

Upgrading the cpu is only going to bring material gains if it is the cpu limiting performance with your current setup. What are you using the pc for and what is the full pc spec?

Generally I doubt the upgrade is a good investment but without more information it’s impossible to say if you will see any gains.

Don't forget the hassle and costs of reselling stuff too, especially on platforms like eBay where people often have a light trigger for charge-backs and then you have to deal with getting your item back if you want to attempt re-selling again.

I don't sell on eBay I buy. As a seller online for many years you learn better ways to go about that. 😉 Find an IT community or face to face using Facebook market place and it won't take long to part ways with a 2600.

I've taken no action on this particular project, but it involves two builds. They have Asrock B450 Pro4 and B350 Pro4 motherboards. I will either upgrade both CPUs to Ryzen 9 3900X's, or swap motherboards to B550 (ideally MSI B550 Tomahawk) and swap in Ryzen 5 4600 this September. Depending on what Zen 3 brings to the table, I'll probably lean towards the R9 3900X option, as it's the least trouble.
