Hello,
I am about to start my new build and was going to purchase a copy of Win. 7 for the build (In about 3 weeks).

But I have a concern. Will new copies of Windows 7 bought now still be eligible for the free upgrade? I would think so but... I don't want to be caught by it.

Thank you!

Solution
Windows 10 will be free for users with Windows 7, 7 and 8.1 if you purchase in the first year after release. If you wait t year it will cost you a 1 time upgrade rate but the updates will be free for eeveryone for the lifetime of that device.

Free upgrade to what, windows 8, 8.1 or 10 ?

8.1 is a free upgrade from 8, and worst case Microsoft is giving free upgrades for 1 year post release to 10 (so far) for all users running 7 and 8.x when release date comes. Atr worst you'll be able to go from 7 to 10.

I remember hearing that Win 7 will get the upgrade to Win 10.

However.... I would just get Win 8 and go with that as for sure that will get the upgrade, and there is no concern about the end of support in 2020 like with Win 7.

Even if you don't like the Metro interface, just slap Classic Shell in there to get the start menu back, and it is like a Windows "7.5"
