[SOLVED] Upgrade Gateway FX6840

I am looking to upgrade my Gateway FX6840 with the following. I was wondering if this will help my performances for gaming?

CPU	Intel Core i7 870

GPU	Nvidia RTX 2060-6GB

SSD	Samsung 970 Pro NVMe PCIe M.2 1TB

Would appreciate your input before I invest.

The CPU may hold back the performance on the GPU significantly depending on the game/resolution and I highly doubt that the motherboard you have with that CPU has a M.2 slot.

I would get the Crucial MX500 1TB SATA SSD if you want a 1TB SSD.

What is your current GPU & what resolution/refresh rate is your monitor?


So looking at your upgrade parts it appears you have a budget around $700. If so I would reuse the case/storage & get this.

Added in the PSU as the one you have is probably the original and needs to be replaced.

IT DOESN'T SUPPORT the 970 and the CPU will hold back the 2060. You need a platform upgrade.

Spec wise it would be fine for gaming but I'm sure that's over your (roughly) $700 budget.

How much are they charging for that? (Not a fan of iBuyPower or most prebuilts as they cut corners to save $$$).
