Upgrade Help / FPS Pretty bad

Hey Dudes,

I have a PC that is currently performing mehish. I know its a rather old machine but my hardware skills really suck. At the point of taking this straight to a computer store and being like "what can I do with it" but I feel like the reply will instantly be like "new pc" regardless of if I can make this any better.

So specs are:
Mobo - MSI-X58M
CPU - Intel Core i7-920 @ 2.67GHz
RAM - 6Gig (Have 2/2/2 gigs at the moment with another 3 slots open.)
Gfx - Sapphire HD 7970.

Anything else I can give to you to help me i'm more than willing.

Yeee that is an old system. Even a basic intel Haswell i5 4460 would wipe the floor with this pc.

You can keep the GPU and RAM but scrap the rest to ebay.
