Okay. Over the past year or so I've been upgrading my prebuilt desktop. Well I wanted to break free from the limiting cage the inspirion feels like its bestowed upon me. I wanted transfer the main parts in the computer to another motherboard/case. Since I'm not really that tech savy I wanted to know a good motherboard+case to upgrade to that will allow me to do some basic overclocking and allow me to upgrade my CPU further down the line. The most I can spend on a motherboard is about 70$ and for a case 65$. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Computer Specs:
-I5 4460 (3.2)
-GTX 750Ti Asus Strix
-8GB of DDR3 Ram
-1TB hard drive
-600w EVGA PSU (Overkill I know)

Solution
Plenty of mico atx cases. What will limit you is price but case choice is mostly a personal looks decision. There's some cheap ones that come with filters; spec-01 and 02, rosewill challenger, haf 912, ostrog q.
You can't oc that cpu so save some more and get a mobo+cpu+ram+windows at the same time. Oem windows will deactivate with that hardware change and I mention ram because you'd go with ddr4. If you stay with the same socket, upgrading to an i7 is hardly worth it so you'd want to at least go with skylake or kaby lake later this year. Might as well just wait to change case too.

So with that kind of hardware change windows would reset really? So i'd have to buy an entirely new copy even though I already have one on my hard drive? If so that really sucks. And yeah I was going to upgrade to a skylake CPU later this year. Specifically the 4690K., the price of it should also be lower too by the time I buy it. About the DDR4 memory, do you know a good motherboard that supports it and the I5 4460/ 4690K?

Oem license are tied to the mobo. You can try to call them and sometimes they will activate it for you.

The 4690k is not skylake, that is still the same haswell arch as you already have. All the 4000 cpus you mention are haswell and ddr3. Prices will probably be the same with people still wanting to upgrade their 1150 pcs. Spending money just for a k cpu makes no sense. The increase in performance is too small. Wait till later this year for kaby lake. Now that you know prebuilts are so limiting, you won't get them anymore but you should stick with that unless you want to waste money. If you've got money to burn, upgrade your gpu. Your cpu can handle better gpus and your gpu is limiting game performance.

Yeah. The problem is that the case is limiting me to a 8.3 inch long graphics card at most. Hopefully AIB partners will make a mini RX 480.

I know there's some short cards on the green team. http://media.bestofmicro.com/V/E/594698/original/20160630104832_big.png And the 1070 is the same tdp as a 480. I suspect the 1060 to be better than the 480 but cost more and tdp will be lower. Even a 1050 should be a good amount better than a 750ti. You might just be ending up with a whole new pc minus hdd and psu. Might as well throw in a ssd too getting up to that budget.

I just wanted to build up from the ground up with a new case+ motherboard first.. I wanted to transfer the CPU,PSU,GPU, HD over to something I knew I have options with in the future. The 750ti isn't really that bad actually. I can definitely use it for a bit longer. It allows me to run games on High/med at 60+ on pretty much all games and it probably will for a year. My main concerns were getting a platform set-up so I can upgrade seamlessly. By the way I can definitely buy some DDR4 memory for a new motherboard. Eh, I think I'll hold off on getting a SSD for a while. My HD is perfectly fine. I might consider it in the future though.

Yeah okay. So what about a complete transfer to a new case so I can have more room for a GPU upgrade? Is that viable? Just wondering. If so can you list a couple options for me.

Thanks.
