Hello Everyone, I am considering upgrading my i5-4460 to a Ryzen 2700x since it is on sale in Canada for 220$ (Original is 440$).

I currently have a GTX 960 and only 8GB ddr3 ram.

This means to upgrade CPU I would need a new motherboard and a new stick of RAM. All this bringing my total cost close to 400$.

Is this upgrade worth it for GAMING? Or should I hold off and worry about my video card? Any suggestions would be lovely.

Ryzen 3600 is better than 2700x for gaming. What is it’s price for you?

You don't want a single stick of ram. It needs to be in matched pairs. If your aim is only games, an R5 3600 is a better choice. Even an R5 2600/x would be a better all around CPU, than what you have, if budget is a concern. Problems you have, is quad core gaming is essentially dead, for modern titles anyway, and your GPU is quite dated.

you could upgrade your cpu to a intel core i7 4770 or i7 4790k if your motherboard can handle it. ofcourse a new system would be better but this would be a cheaper option .

Depending on their motherboard, E3 Xeons are also a possibility, like the 1231v3, or better. The 1231v3 is basically an i7 4770, without integrated graphics.

yes the xeons is usually cheaper if motherboard support it. recommend ebay or aliexpress for used market.

I was considering upgrading my processor to an Ryzen r7 2700x since it is on sale for half price and canadacomputers(220$). However they have decent GPU's on sale.

What would be my most beneficial upgrade? Since if I change my CPU I will need a new motherboard and RAM (Which probably needs changing anyways) 800mhz.... youch.

I don't think you can go much higher with the GPU with that CPU.....so I have to say CPU upgrade first.
