Question Upgrade i5 4590

I've had an i5 4590 with a gtx 960 since 2016. I know it time for an upgrade because I'm not getting the performance I want while gaming. Any suggestions for a cost efficient upgrade to the i5 4590 and eventually an upgrade to the 960?

Can't make any sort of recommendation without a budget. If I had to upgrade my i5-3470 immediately, a Ryzen 3600 would be the minimum upgrade I'd consider. If the games you are most interested in fare significantly better on Intel CPUs, then you may be better off with an i7-8700k and up if you don't mind the price.

About $200-250 would be my budget

Since you will need a new motherboard and RAM to go with any modern CPU, $250 is quite low. Unless you want to buy used, it won't get you much of an upgrade over your i5. I'd recommend saving until you can spare $350 for a Ryzen 3600 ($200) + B450 motherboard ($80) + 2x8GB DDR4-3000 ($70) which should be about twice as fast as your i5 in more heavily threaded games and applications.

Thanks for the advice. I'll probably end up doing just that and waiting until I have enough to get a decent and worthwhile upgrade
