Hi all,
I’m looking to do the big CPU / Motherboard upgrade.
Weighing up between the 12400 and the 12600k from an i5 4690k.
I’m thinking for hassle of changing - the 12600k might be worth the extra ££.
So looking at:
i5 12600k
MSI Pro-Z690-A
https://www.ebuyer.com/1417907-msi-...-i5-12600k-pro-z690-a-wifi-ddr4-bx8071512600k
Plus 16 GB Corsair Vengeance
https://www.ebuyer.com/957345-corsa...r4-dual-channel-memory-kit-cmk16gx4m2d3600c18

Then I understand the i5-12600k doesn’t come with a cooler, so thinking
Arctic Liquid Freezer 2 plus the LGA1700 upgrade kit

https://www.scan.co.uk/products/arc...w8308rpuYWoS1hKJ-0QK-jrnKnv70iQxoC4vsQAvD_BwE

is there anything else I should consider?
Power consumption ? -I think I’ve got a 650W
Size of case - I’ve got an old Antec case that’s full size and done me well.

any other advice much appreciated

thanks
Rupert

The stock cooler on the Intel's aren't worth it, you're going to have to get an aftermarket air cooler if you went without the K suffix processor.

As for your build, what discrete GPU are you looking into?

I’ve got an old Antec case that’s full size and done me well.
Model to said case?

I would get the 12600K if you can afford the extra, the 4 little cores are well worth having. The Artic cooler you have there is a good performing cooler and should pair nicely with a 12600K. I don't know if it's pushing your budget but you might want to consider a 32GB RAM kit instead.

Thanks for the replies
The GPU is a GeForce GTX1060- I would be looking to upgrade to a RTX 3060 probably next year.
I’ve no idea about the model number of the case - I can’t see it anywhere obviously on it, and I’ve had it for 10+ years.
I currently have a Corsair H55 cooler with its 120mm fan fitted into the fan slot at the back. I’m really unsure the choice of cooler.
RAM wise I would consider 32GB would just stick with some reasonably priced 3600 DDR4

Just in terms of the cooler / case. The top of the case has one 120mm fan as part of the case, would this mean a 240mm or bigger cooler wouldn’t fit?
And that you would need either to go with a 120mm AIO cooler or an air cooler on top of the CPU?
