Upgrade I7 and reused parts question

Mar 10, 2007
Hi everyone,
I will upgrade my system and want to know what do you think about the parts I will have.

New part
MOBO: Asus P6T V2
MEMORY : Dominator TR3X6G1866C9DF 6GB DDR3-1866 CL 9-9-9-24
CPU : I7 920
PSU: HX1000W

part to be reused

COOLING : Freezone elite , I already get the bracket for the lga 1366
HD : 2 raptor, 2 640gb
DVD : Blu ray , dvd burner
VIdeo card : BFG GTX 295

Plan OC : 3,9~~4.2 ghz

Future parts to get

Video card : BFG GTX295 sli.. quad gpu .. something like that
Ram : another 6 Gig for a total of 12 gig.. Lot of video processing.

3 small questions: :pt1cable:

1- Did my freezone Elite will do the job for the I7, when i look in some forums it looks like some have good result an other not so good .What do you think it is better to go air or to keep my Frezone.

2- It's look like for overclocking the I7 memory it's a key to get good result. Did that memory his overkill , if yes can you tell me the part I should get instead.

3-With all the parts I have is it a good choice to go with the Hx1000w

You won't be able to push a 920 to 4.2ghz on air I think. Also, going for 12gig of ram might cause stability issues (more heat, more memory to deal with, etc). I'd stick with 6 and see if it does the job. You'll end up being able to overclock it more that way.
As for 2xgtx295, for current gen games, it is a waste. A single one will do just fine ;)

Now on the upside, with the money you saved by not getting a second gtx295, you can dump that into a pretty nice watercooling set and push that i7 a lot farther :)

Ya there's a few items that are overkill. Probally don't need 12gb of ram. You are right: It is important to get a good solid ram for overclocking the i7. It is much more memory senstive that previous cpu's.

Another set of ram that you might find acceptable at a better price:
(Better timings as well)

And another:

Unless your using a 30" 25x16 monitor 2 gtx 295's are overkill. You won't see any real time preformance difference. 1 gtx 295 will run any game on the highest settings at 19x12 without breaking a sweat.

With that being said maybe drop your psu down to the corsair 850. the 1000 would also be overkill.

Thanks guys for your input,

Regarding the price difference between the 850W and hx1000W it's 30$ higher but it's one of the best 1000W based on review.

So I'ill go with the
Corsair HX1000W CMPSU-1000HX , may be some add-on in the future.

For the memory, I'll chose the mushkin 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 It,s review as one the best for now.

Thanks again for your help I really appreciate
