help me out here ppl,
can't decide if i should upgrade my rig to 12700k or 12900k(IK overkill) z690 with DDR5 6000MHz

must useg is for gaming at 4k@60fps or 120fps if possible at my LG C1 55'

current :
CPU 9700k
GIGABYTE AORUS MASTER Z390
CORSAIR Vengeance 2x8 3000mhz CL15
EVGA RTX 3080 Ti ULTRA HYBRID
EVGA SuperNOVA 850W G2 80+ GOLD
SAMSUNG 980 PRO 1TB

anyone had this upgrade?

I would say overkill and definite diminishing returns.
What game/FPS are you currently getting and what do you expect to gain? With that screen, anything over 120FPS is a waste.

Please run a Userbenchmark and 3DMark Time Spy run and give us a link to the results.

While it may not be top dog, the 9700K is still perfectly viable for gaming. Even more so if overclocked. DDR5 is still too new with too few benefits to consider it (personally). While upgrading would of course (be an upgrade), you won't see massive gains. Just put some time into pushing your 9700K close to its limit & get some more life out of it. 20 minutes got me 5Ghz all cores & stable and I wasn't even pushing it. It just did it - with a little extra voltage. Been running the same config for approaching 2 years.

Regardless though, if you got money to blow, you got money to blow.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm running my 9700K with a 3090.

i didn't find any comparison between 9700k to 12700k or 12900k...
so i can't know how much performance gain i will get, maybe squeeze another 10-15fps so i can do 4k@60fps on the highest setting
as for now im sitting on 50-55 fps on highest settings
maybe someone done this upgrade and can share his own experience
was wondering also to wait for AMD MA5 ,and the DDR5 implantation in time on the gaming world.
another thing may be worth waiting is m.2 gen 5 to be available soon that can gain near twice preference from gen 4
although asus strix gaming-e z690 has 1 gen PCIe5 m.2 on the bord.
but that mean your graphics card will run at x8 once you pop that slot with an m.2 card.
