Upgrade My CPU

I have a gateway computer and i thing my motherboard is bad i want to replace it with the same board the motherboard is MCP7AM-01 what I would like to know if i can upgrade my CPU and if so what is the fastest cpu that i can replace with, I have and intel processer quad-core 2.33 now

If you insist replacing it with the same MB, use the Gateway selection for what processor to use. Newer processors sometimes require a BIOS update to be recognized. Since OEM manufacturers like Gateway do not support their BIOS updates very well, putting a faster processor in than what was on Gateway's recommended list may not be recognized. What is the make/model of your Gateway?

I have a gateway LX 6810-01 i just seem to be having problems finding any information on the motherboard or CPU's that are compatiable

If yours is the same as this one that Newegg used to sell, it has a "Yorkfield" C2Q. If you stay with other Yorkfield processors w/1333 MHZ buss speed, you may not have any problems with the BIOS recognizing it. But no guarantees.
