I bought this machine in December 2012. It works great for my day to day work, and has worked great for my casual gaming, but recently I'm finding I don't meet requirements for games or they have to run on minimum settings. I haven't changed any of the machine's components, so I'm wondering if it's worth just buying a new video card, and if so, which one, or is the machine too old/outdated and I should just buy a new machine with a new video card?

PURCHASE DATE: December 2012

MACHINE SPECS:
Intel Core i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz, 3901 Mhz, 4 Cores, 8 Logical Processors
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti
Xeon(R) processor E3-1200 v2/3rd Gen Core processor PCI Express
BaseBoard Gigabyte Technology Co. Z77-D3H
240GB SSD INTEL SSDSC2CW240A3 ATA Device
16GB RAM
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
Philips 237EQPH monitor 1920 x 1080

GAMES I'D LIKE TO PLAY:
Some are playable, but on low settings, and others aren't playable.
Watch Dogs 2, Batman Arkham Knight, GTA 5, Mafia III, Sniper Elite 4, Assassin's Creed Unity and newer, Rise of the Tomb Raider, etc.

BUDGET:
I could see spending up to $500 or so on a video card and up to $2k for a new machine, but I'd go higher if it's worth it.

LOCATION: BC, Canada

Thanks in advance for any advice from those who know better! :)

I had a system with i5 3570k build in 2012 too at 2017 i decided to upgrade it to a gtx 1060 and i had worst fps even than my gtx 660 in most games so i ended up buying a new system with ryzen and everything was good. Your system is really old and its better to buy a new one. With 2000$ budget you can go for RTX 2070 super or 2080 super, a ryzen 7 3700X , X570 motherboard , 16GB 3600Mhz ddr4 ram , an ssd for os and most played game , an hhd and last buy a new 1440p 144hz it will be day and night from the monitor you already have.

You can get a newer card, if you don't like how that runs you can build a newer system to use with that card. Unless you also upgrade the monitor getting a 2,000 computer is a bit of waste. New monitor is actually a good idea, yours is a bit old and not very good for gaming.

One thing though, your budget is in Canadian dollars and prices correct?

Well for me you can get a GTX 1660 Ti for that the processor 3770 would still run it beautifully.

But considering if you have a money to spend then Building a PC would be better Starting with Ryzen or Intel. however if you think the computer can still run for a couple of years then stick with it and upgrade the GPU

however if money is not an issue build a new PC :D
