[SOLVED] Upgrade options for 5/6 year old rig

potentially looking to upgrade the rig but don't really want to do a brand new build.

If I wanted to upgrade the GPU for eg (preferably a single card that could run triple screens), what would be a good option before it starts being bottlenecked by the cpu etc.

Current build (fully watercooled inc both 970s):

Sli won't be much better in most games than a newer single GPU. Something like a 1660 ti should be a good fit.

Yeah I'm not fussed about keeping SLI.

I have an RX 570 8gb in my pc with a non K 4770, I'm still limited by the GPU, so pretty much any modern mid range card would perform well with your cpu, just depends on what your preferences and budget are.

If you're going to look at the 1660 ti, look at the 1660 super. Should be about 50 dollars cheaper and is only 3-5% slower. Might even look at the 5600 xt that just released today though.

Thing about sli is that sli and crossfire are starting to not be a thing anymore. You are dependent upon the game developer to support it and then have to deal with how they would scale, plus more power to run 2 cards. You get the idea.

But for the most part now, I don't think many recommend sli or crossfire as it's easier to have a single more powerful gpu.

Just for reference, they talk about the GTX 1070 in that thread. In benchmarks, the GTX 1660 super and 1660 ti are about the same performance as a GTX 1070.

RTX 2060KO is a good option, as is the newly released 5600xt. You just have to be sure the model you get, for the AMD card, is capable of running at the higher speeds via a bios update.

Grab cheapest card up to gtx 1070 level, or higher tier cards if you overclock cpu, it's up to you and your budget. After few years you should upgrade again, tech getting old very fast.

With respect, I think the other posters are suggesting an under-upgrade.

Two 970s, depending on the game, have the potential to be pretty stout and if you but a shiny new card you want to really feel the improvement.

A single RTX 2070 Super would be enough upgrade to feel.
