Hey guys,
Got a first-world-problem decision I need some external advice on. I recently purchased a ROG Swift 1440p 165hz Gsync monitor and the 980ti is starting to show its age.
Ive been looking at the 2080 ti for $1600 AUD, the 2080 Super at $1200 AUD, or a used 1080 ti for around $800 AUD. Those are currently the best prices I can find locally.
My concern with the 1080 ti is that I would have to buy a card that would be 2+ years old in most cases, not knowing if the previous owner has been mining with it etc. It is without a doubt the best bang for buck though - although something still irks me about paying $800 for a 2+ year old GPU.
The 2080 Super seems a bit pricey when looking at performance increase over 1080 ti, but at least I will get a current gen card that supports Ray Tracing and its brand new.
2080 ti is what I really want, but Im just not sure its worth the extra $400 over the Super considering the average gain of only ~15% at 1440p. It would also bother me to spend this amount one year after the card has been released just for Nvidia to drop its next flag ship model 6 months later at the same price, or worse a similar performing model at the price of the 2080.
If any one here at Toms was in the market for a high end GPU, what would your choices currently be? Please keep in mind that AMD is not an option as I have a GSYNC monitor. I play mostly competitive fps games like Escape From Tarkov, Squad, Insurgency SS, and some random single player games from time to time like Tomb Raider or No Mans Sky etc..
Cheers for the opinions
