I am a enthusiast photographer. I edit my photos using Photoshop Lightroom and some plugins mostly topaz.. I built my current system in 2018 it is
OS windows 11..
CPU Intel i78700k
MOB. Is a Gigabyte z390hp
Ram 64 gb 3200 ddr4
Graphics card GeForce 1050 6gb
Monitor Dell p2715qt. 4k , IPS 99

%% srgb 70% RGB.
The graphics card is outdated, the CPU is older too. So a new mob probably.. The monitor model came to market in 2014 and i purchased it new in 2018. Specs seem ok but there has been a lot of improvements since 2014
My questions are as follows
1. Will the monitor do the job if I upgrade my GPU.
2. If not what do I replace first My thinking and I'm not a computer nerd but not illiterate either
CPU and MOB
GPU
Monitor
If a new MOB was compatible with ddr4 I could use it for a bit
I have currently an Antex ATX case a 750 watt powered supply. M.2 , a solid stat hard drive and sever hdd I back photos up to
3. Where would you suggest I start..
Any hardware recommendations. Looking at mid to upper mid price range. All suggestions. welcome. Thanks for reading.

In what way is your current setup not doing the job?
What is your budget?

Is your monitor adequate?
4K is about as good as it gets; Is the image good?
Do you get at least 60hz?
Would you benefit from a side monitor of some sort?
Look at rtings.com for monitor reviews and how your current monitor stacks up.

Is your processing time good?
If not, a cpu upgrade is going to also require a motherboard change.
Currently Intel offers motherboards with DDR4 support.
DDR4 performance is comparable to DDR5 so you could reuse your ram.
$300 or so buys you a intel processor some 2x as capable as your 8700K.
There is a continuous spectrum of [rice/performance in processors.

Your easiest upgrade would be the graphics card.
Your 750w psu should handle many reasonable gpu upgrades.
Here is tom's gpu hierarchy chart:

Make it a good jump or you may be disappointed if you don't see magical results.

Thanks for the reply.
My current setup tends to freeze up or when using Photoshop and Lightroom. The adobe products have become a lot more demanding on system resources the last few years
I will rephrase my monitor question
Is the monitor I have comparable in quality as to what's available today. Colour accuracy is important to me when printing.

What is the make/model of said PSU? A gpu would be a good start, as I am fairly sure those softwares can make use of a GPU for rendering. What make/model for said PSU?
I am away from home for a few days. I can tell you it is 750 watts . My son gave it to as a gift. He said it was overkill but future proofed. If I can reuse it that's great . If not I get an appropriate one

Without knowing the model, cannot really comment on it. Good models came with 10 year warranty back in 2018, 7 years was more common.

Like @geofelt said, RTings is a good place to start for monitors.

As you can see, the 7700X might a good CPU choice. or even the 9600X with the 105W profile.
