I have the following build:

Fractal R5 Case
Asus z170-a mobo
i5-6600k w. scythe kotetsu
asus nvidia gtx 970 strix
Kingston HyperX FURY - 2x8GB DDR4 2133MHz PC4-17000
corsair rmx 850w

I'm buying a 1440p monitor 144hz (haven't decided which one yet) and I'm using the pc for both working and gaming.

I haven't OC'ed GFX card or CPU yet. In order to get the most out of my new monitor are there any upgrades I can make here or do I have to go out and replace mobo, cpu, gfx and ram?

I play mostly fortnite, red dead 2, witcher 3 and will play the new cyperpunk 2077 when it comes out.

What would you do?

Thanks.

You are in a very tough situation as far as upgrading your CPU. You can buy a used i7-6700K for around $260. Or, you can buy a new i5-8400 that is just as fast for $194 + $50 motherboard.. or whatever CPU + motherboard you want to spend your money on.

You can OC your GPU to perform like a stock GTX 980 or stock GTX 1060 6GB. But, that's still not going to get you the best out of your monitor. An RTX 2060 might be a good option, or something better.

I would stick with what you have until you decide it's not good enough.
