Hello beings of the Milkyway, I am creating this post today asking you a simple question. Should I upgrade to a GTX 770/R9 280X or buy another R9 270X and run it in Crossfire with my current R9 270X?

Here is my build
* CPU: Intel i5 4690k
* GPU: Sapphire Radeon R9 270x Dual-X OC 2GB
* RAM: 8GB Hynix RAM @ 1600MHz
* HDD: Western Digital Caviar blue 1TB @ 7200RPM
* HDD 2: Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB @ 7200RPM
* MOBO: ASUS Z97-K
* PSU: EVGA 500B 500W

In any case I will be upgrading the PSU and I would also like to add that for games that do not support Crossfire, would I even need it?

Solution
Generally a single card is better then crossfire due to various issues with micro-stutter and frame tearing. AMD has fixed some of this in their drivers but honestly it really isn't worth it. The GTX 770 is a good card but the prices are rising due to Nvidia not making any more thanks to the new GTX 9xx series. I thoroughly suggest the GTX 970. Wait for one that's not out of stock and it will cost around $340 - $400 and this is something that will give you near GTX 780ti performance

Sounds like wise advice but the thing is gtx 770 is already out of my budget. I was also looking at the R9 280X and the price for that still scrapes the roof of my budget because I DO need a new PSU if I plan on making any changes to my build

I'm hoping nothing more than £200 but I'll go up to £220 and this is including the PSU

By the way I have just thought of this. I could sell my current GPU and that would bump me up around £100

get another r9 270x if thats your budget. 2 r9 270x is pretty OP. Crossfire has been out for a while now. I'm pretty confident that it would run smooth on AMD plateform. And all the new games are optimized for sli/cf setups.
