NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti
Samsung SSD 840 EVO 250GB [Hard drive] (250.06 GB)
2X8GB G.SKILL F4-3200C16D-16GTZB
PSU EVGA 850W
Windows 10 Home (x64)

Would it be wise/cost-effective to upgrade this system, or would I be better off building a new machine. I use it primarily for gaming.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Just replace the graphics card with an RTX 2070 Super or an RX 5700XT

Your CPU is still pretty decent. I would say a new GPU. Get the best that you can afford.

That depends on what the recommendation is. I could probably upgrade now, but a new machine would probably have to wait for a few months. Right now I'm leaning toward ugrading the GPU.
