Hi all. At the moment I’m looking into either upgrading my current system, and basically seeing if it’s worth it or if I should just buy a new system. Upgrading is preferential.

PC is for gaming.

Just a note that currently, the PC is very loud when gaming which is an issue.

Specs

CPU: AMD FX-SERIES FX-8320
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970
Motherboard: ASRock 970 Extreme3
Memory: 8GB SINGLE 1600 KINGSTON
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Case: THERMALTAKE 500W USB 3.0 VERSA H21
PSU: Corsair CX650
BENQ 2755HM 1920x1080 Monitor

Should I invest in a CPU cooler, a new GPU, or is it more value for money to simply buy a new PC? Are my parts too outdated?

Thanks in advance!

Right at 600 and you can sell your board, CPU and memory. Reuse the rest and adds a SSD for the OS and programs, reformat your 500gb drive for your games.

If you just want it to shut up, get a big air cooler for the CPU (most can be carried over to a future build) and some additional case fans to exhaust heat out of the case if that's an issue. SSD would also speed up the overall system (not gaming performance) dramatically.

My FX-8320/GTX 970 combination was a relatively decent gamer for modern games. 60 FPS was easily achievable in most with a mild overclock (4.2). GPU and RAM prices are simply stupid right now for a new build, unfortunately. It was terrible at older, poorly optimized games like ARMA 3, Fallout 4, etc.

Cheers for the response dudeman509 and Zerk2012, I think I’m leaning towards a new system.

In regards to budget I was either going to try to upgrade it in $600 or less or just buy a new $2000 machine
