I have a Dell Xps 8300 core i5 2310 at 2.9 Ghz. 750W PSU, 8 Gb RAM, AMD Radeon HD 7870.
I want to play 4K games on into 2018 newer titles. Can my PC be upgraded to perform well? Please list viable upgrades necessary in order of importance. Thank you
Unfortunately the processor and the platform will hold you back. You could invest into a new platform while keeping your chassis intact but you'll miss out on USB 3.0 front panel connectivity alongside options to mount SSD's and other 2.5" drives which can be found on today's chassis's. 2018 will be pushing it by a long shot since game developers are trying to ask more from hardware's and are trying to push forward the boundaries for game details.
We will need you to list out your current system's specs as follows:
CPU:
Mobo:
Ram:
PSU:
SSD:
HDD:
GPU:
and that should help us pick out some parts for your upgrade though the most critical part is your budget which you have't stated. If there is no budget we could just build you a super...

I had some things come up to prevent me from upgrading righ now. I was told, however hat my PC would run fine with a gtx 1080...and by platform do you mean mobo?
Ah, sorry to hear of your setback though I like to believe that everything happens for a reason
Now, I'd like to know who told you it would run just fine...? If you hadn't already guessed it, I was talking about your platform being a bottleneck for the GTX1080. Mind you, you didn't state the specs as I've asked you to list out.
