i currently have my ms-7525 motherboard with a e2220 processor with it. I wanna upgrade the cpu to get a little more performance out of my rig so i was about to buy a e7400. But the thing is the ark says e7400 is a 45nm processor and my e2220 65nm processor. the manufacturer page says i can upgrade it to a e7*** cpu but is that true?

Solution
They're both on the LGA775 socket so yes it should work to upgrade to E7400.
This is the case also with I7 3820 and I7 4960X.
I7 3820 is 32nm while I7 4960X is 22nm, they still work on the same motherboard (LGA 2011).

Regarding BIOS I think you're fine. Drivers are probably up to date. If it happends that you get issue due to outdated BIOS, which is not likely. It's an easy fix with 20min research on how to update BIOS for your motherboard. I had to update my BIOS on my motherboard which is confusing due to Asus being themself but I did solve it with maybe 30min research without any problems.
