I am not really looking to upgrade at this moment but the latest games that are coming out on the market today look like they need a strong cpu, and I wanted to know if it is a good time to upgrade to a better cpu from my 3 year old fx 8320 processor or should i wait

Solution
Now is not a good time to upgrade to a new system or even upgrade the CPU.

Reasons why full system upgrade is not very good:
You need a new board, DDR4 RAM in addition to a new CPU. And DDR4 RAM is very expensive now because of mining/mobile phones. Older boards are also very rare to come across.
Wait a while longer.

As for upgrading to a faster, more cores FX: The best you can go is the FX 9590, which is 220W and has the multi core performance of a stock, locked i7 6700, single thread of a i7 7500U laptop. And needs expensive 240mm+ liquid cooling.

I suggest you invest into buying a high-end AIO cooler with LGA 1150 (latest Intel) or PGA 1331 (latest AMD AM4) sockets. So when the time is right you can use the liquid...
Well that depends if you have the money to upgrade, you can go out and buy an fx 8350 and have less than a 15% difference in preformance, you can go out and pay $700 to buy a new motherboard, ram, and cpu, honestly, depending on your Graphics card, I think you will be fine for the moment, I'm using an fx 6300 until i save up for the 8700k, new mobo, and ram, but the fx 6300 (pair with a gtx 1060) still runs just about any game on 1080p at 40 fps or higher, so should you upgrade? Yes, it's it necessary? No

Well tha'ts what I am trying to find out where should i go from here. Ryzen or intel both seem powerful but both are an expensive piece of hardware.

I will jump onto the new platform:

that is a good price point but will that cpu run the games like Monster hunter worlds and battlefield 1 (in high settings)
I know I sound snobby but those are the types of games I usually play.

Ok that's actually sweet thanks dude I will see if there are any other CPU people will recommend but that is so far my go to. Thank you

And meanwhile you can use the liquid cooler to crank your FX 6100 to 4.6-5.0 GHz. Its possible, look at my sig below. This would probably give a good boost to your FPS, and allow playable framerates while you hold out on an upgrade.

EDIT: Miscellaneous overclocking info
Each CPU may vary, but for the Bulldozer uArch, (its like Piledriver), do not exceed 1.50V on air or 1.55V on water. Absolute maximum. Keep temperatures below 61°C also.

Usual clocks achieved.
1.42500V 4.10-4.40 GHz
1.45000V 4.30-4.60 GHz
1.47500V 4.40-4.80 GHz
1.50000V 4.50-4.90 GHz
1.52500V 4.60-5.00 GHz
1.55000V 4.70-5.10 GHz

BCLK set at 200.00 MHz, multi adjust to stable clocks, test for stability using 10 runs of Standard IBT.
