Hello! I currently running i5 6400 with an 970 as my previous pc broke and was wondering what cpu to buy. I ordered a 3070 for about 400 and now I'm either stuck waiting for intel and amds next gen parts or buying right before a release. I considering buying a 12400f with a b660 ddr5 board because then I have a clear upgrade path later on (ex 13700k) and I get to have a new system right away. I'm just so tired of waiting to upgrade because first I thought rtx 2000 series didnt bring any real value and then 3000 series and covid made the value proposition even worse. Also, ryzen 7000 platform seem to be quite expensive, at least from the start. Another option is like a 9700k or 3700x second hand.

Solution
If you want something now, then yes, the LGA1200 platform still provides an upgrade option while not being too expensive. Otherwise if you can wait, but don't want to wait too long, I'd say wait until B600 boards for AM5 comes out, then make a decision then.
