Question Upgrade PSU Help

While gaming and playing Fortnite I have experienced several times a sudden crash the screen will freeze and go black and the monitor loses signal. This happens around 10-15 mins into the game every time and The only way for me to get back signal is holding down the power button and then turning the pc back on.

I've uninstalled GPU drivers and reinstalled them aswell as resetting pc and installing a fresh installation of windows.

Here are my PC Specs:

CPU: i7 7700 (Cooler Master Liquid Cooled)
Motherboard: Gigabye H110M-S2H
Ram: 16gb Corsair Vengeance 2400 MHz
SSD/HDD: Gigabyte 240gb SSD
GPU: Zotac Nvidia GTX 1070
PSU: Cooler Master MasterWatt Lite 600W 80+
OS: Windows 10 Home

My GPU & CPU temps are perfectly fine, and this PC and all the components are only 3 months old. My thoughts are that it is the PSU, I have considered upgrading to the EVGA 850 GQ, 80+ GOLD 850W PSU but id like to get some more thoughts before I go ahead and do that

Hi I'm looking to upgrade my PSU to the EVGA 850 GQ, 80+ GOLD 850W Is this Power Supply reliable?

My Current PC Specs are:

CPU: i7 7700 (Cooler Master Liquid Cooled)
Motherboard: Gigabye H110M-S2H
Ram: 16gb Corsair Vengeance 2400 MHz
SSD/HDD: Gigabyte 240gb SSD
GPU: Zotac Nvidia GTX 1070
PSU: Cooler Master MasterWatt Lite 600W 80+
OS: Windows 10 Home

Im currently having crashing issues with my current PSU, hence the upgrade

While the PSU is rated at 600W, it can provide only 456W to the CPU and GPU, thanks to 12v rails rated at "only" 38 Amps (12V x 38A = 456W).

465 watts may not sound much but it's still more than enough to handle a ~160W GPU and a 65W CPU = ~225 watts.

But if you think it's the PSU then:
  1. Replace the unit and test the hardware with another PSU.
  2. Remove the GPU and stress test the hardware.
  3. Undervolt the CPU and GPU and THEN stress test the hardware.
  4. Check the voltages with a multimeter.
Personally, I think it's your RAM and I'd run a memory stress test, if I was you. In my 20+ years of PC gaming, I've run into RAM issues multiple times, and your PC is showing pretty much all the symptoms of a faulty RAM module. But of course; a faulty CPU and GPU can cause similar problems as well so...

Keep an open mind and test your components one by one.

Best of luck!

quite reliable but you could probably do just fine getting a 750 it has nothing to do with the WATTS the PSU you have is just a pretty low-quality one.

Thank you! The price difference is £20 compared to the 750w, that's why I decided I may aswell opt for the 850 instead, plus I do plan to make more upgrades so the 850w would be more future proof with that in mind

850 Watt should be more than enough to power your current system. You shouldn't really need 800+ unless you're planning on doing an SLI or Crossfire build.

Yep I do plan to make more upgrades though so 850w will be more future proof and with the £20 price difference compared to the 750w, 850w seems like the better option
