Question Upgrade Question for free AMD based desktop system

I have a question about an IBM Thinkcentre M77 that has an AMD Phenom ii X2 @ 3.2GHz dual core(?). The socket is the AM3+. After looking around at processors that will fit this socket I came across the AMD FX-8370 for pretty cheap but it's an 8-core chip. Will this processor work in the M77 architecture?

The M77 name was used on a bunch of different models. Some had FX CPUs some didn't. With the limited information you have provided, it is difficult to know if your specific model will support an FX. Maybe if you use CPUz and get more detailed motherboard info you will be able to get better info.

What I have discovered is that the AMD980g chipset will recognize up to the FX - 4XXX 4 core processors without a bios update. I don't think it will recognize anything above that.
