Upgrade question

I am currently looking for an upgrade from my XFX Radeon HD4870 XXX 512MB, as things are not so good when starting to play GTA, Crysis and FPS games. I have £250 / $400 to upgrade my grahics to something better.

My current system is:

Antec 1200 case
Xilence 800w Gaming Edition PSU
Asus Maximus II Formula
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 @ 3.2
4GB OCZ PC2-8500 DDR2 Reaper HPC Performance

My motherboard supports one more card, so what should I do buy enougher 4870 so I can have a crossfire setup, or should I completely upgrade it, would like to be under the budget if possible.

You could go with HD5850. Adding another HD4870 512mb for CF gives raw horsepower but bogs down at higher resolutions with AA enabled because of the lack of memory, it is still only 512mb.

I think that is one of the issues I currently face due to I have an HD 22 inch monitor which recommended should run 1920 x 1080, which it does run very well even crysis, but the framerate is very poor and GTA IV having high settings is completely out of the question as, I simple do not have enough ram.

So maybe going for the 58** 1GB would be best then...

It is in your price range and your CPU can handle it so I would say YES! You could even go HD5870

Yes just seen that, I will most likely go for the 5870, sell my current one which hopefully I shall have half for a 2nd one for a Crossfire setup.

I am later on this year round april moving to an I7 which hopefully will make things even better.
