Hi. I have an Acer Aspire 4740, i5, 3 GB RAM (windows 7, 64 bits). Originally, the usable memory was about 2.6 GB. I removed one memory (1 GB) and installed a 4 GB memory. My PC worked OK after installation. Then, I changed the usable memory up to about 5.5 GB using "msconfing". I booted the system and now my screen is not working. The screen shows blue, green and black lines and squares. I cannot enter to windows again. I connected and external screen but it was the same. I am thinking that because I increased the usable memory up to almost the total installed RAM, the screen can not properly work. BIOS shows 6144 MB, which is correct; and video memory 128 MB (Integrated Intel® GMA HD graphics).
I would like to know how I can change (decrease) the usable memory without entering to windows (currently my PC does not allow me to do it). Can I change the usable memory from BIOS? The current BIOS options do not allow to change memory settings. Other solution? Thanks.
