I can't decide whether I should upgrade my RAM first or my GPU.
Here's my specs:

CPU:Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 2.93Ghz
GPU:Nvidia GT 610
RAM:2GB 800Mhz Apacer Tech.
Motherboard:Intel DG41RQ

Now, if I upgrade GPU, I'm getting a Radeon R7 240 2GB DDR3 with boost PCI-E.
If i uprade RAM, I'm getting another 2 GB, therefore giving me 4GB in total (2x2).
Which of these will give me more of a performance boost?

Well, that is a 2x1GB kit and I have only 2 ports, so If i got that one it would only give me two choices - Use the 2x1GB and sell my previous 1x2GB or to keep using my 1x2GB and in the other port add the other 1GB. Not really useful.

Mate, you need to upgrade your PC haha.

As for your question: It really depends. If you upgrade your GPU, you will soon find yourself lacking RAM. If you upgrade your RAM, you won't see much of an improvement.

I'd say go GPU for now, and then add in another RAM stick As Soon As Possible.

For a pure performance boost, you'll do well with just upgrading the GPU for now. Add in a stick of ram when you get the cash, which will need to be soon, as most games nowadays require 4 gigs, as minimum.

Some recent problems have been making me think that I should upgrade RAM first. I play stuff like Rust, and Minecraft and they require a lot of ram. I recently got messages like "Your pc is low on memory. Close some programs to free up space" and messages like that.
