[SOLVED] Upgrade/Re-build Gaming PC Advice - From i5 4440, GTX1660s and 16gb DDR3

Good afternoon All,

I have just comeback to PC gaming after a couple of years off, but have found my existing system struggles a bit on the newer titles and on the updates to various games. I am by no means a "hardcore" gamer but would like to be able to play new titles without having reduce settings considerably. I only play at 1080p so aren't looking for a monster of a machine.

My current PC has:
i5-4440
16gb DDR3
GTX 1660 super
240gb SSD
1tb hard drive

At the moment I am playing Rust which the PC is struggling a little with, quite a few noticeable slow downs/ frame drops. I would like to play RDR2, Total War Warhammer 2, Hunt Showdown and Mount and Blade 2.

Any advice on if I could upgrade the current PC to "keep up" for a little long would be great, although looking at the best LGA1150 CPUs in used condition are more expensive than the latest kit put of AMD and Intel, so probably not the best investment. I suspect I'll need to rebuild if I want to future proof for a couple of years, but can't get my out of day head around the current CPU line ups with so many reviews saying to buy R5 1600AF, R5 3600x, i7-9770k etc, I just want a reasonable system that isn't going to break the bank.

Sorry I have rambled on a bit, but any advice on what to do and what parts to buy would be greatly appreciated.

What motherboard and power supply?

What is the refresh rate of your monitor?

What is your budget?

Unfortunately, the 1600AF is not currently available from the reseller on Amazon that sells it for $85, but hopefully it comes back soon. It's run out and come back before. CPU prices for Ryzen currently seem a little elevated, maybe because of the pandemic.

Still, a budget mid-range Ryzen CPU, coupled with a B450-based motherboard, and 16 GB of DDR4 RAM would probably be the sweet spot.

And, as @larsv8 has indicated, knowing your monitor's specs (also, does it have FreeSync, GSync, or neither?), as well as your budget, and especially the brand and EXACT model of your power supply, would be helpful.

I just upgraded from a 3570k to a Ryzen 3600. It plays Mount & Blade II Bannerlord very well.
I was also surprised that web pages load faster as I assumed my old system was good enough for web browsing but there is a noticable difference there

I would recommend you go with AMD, going Intel at this point is a waste of money and will not be future proof as the AMD system will be, the 1600AF as was told above is not available for the $85 price that is was, now it costs $108: https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Processo...dc8d59a24e0a21094e7590b82b5ecf&language=en_US

Another thing maybe because you don't have enough space in your SSD you are experiencing slowdowns, RDR2 is like 170GB of a game you should upgrade your SSD to at least 500GB I recommend this one: https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Barr...7f032ac66d6da86e332222176699b8&language=en_US
