I had my Pc for about 3 years now,
i5 7600k
be quiet pure rock slim cpu cooler
Asrock z170 Extreme 4
8GB 2400mhz 2x4GB upgraded to 16GB 2400mhz 4x4GB
1TB HDD upgraded to 500GB nvme SSD
the 1TB HDD serves me as mass storage for games I don't play often
EVGA Supernova G2 650w PSU
GTX 1050 ti upgraded to rx 580 4gb then sold the rx 580 for double for what i got it for and upgraded to a GTX 1660 Super

Currently running a 1080p 75hz monitor and a 900p 75hz monitor
I am wanting to choose between a 1080p 240hz monitor or a 1440p 144/165hz monitor however not many games I play hit 240fps (mainly apex legends and i average about 120-150fps.
What cheapest upgrade can I get to achieve a higher framerate? How much of a difference would getting an i7 7700k make?

To make any meaningful difference from a cpu upgrade you are looking at new cpu/motherboard and maybe RAM (2400mhz is slow). Going to a 7700k really only gains Hyperthreading for gaming and while it can help it’s not going to be a big upgrade. A good upgrade would be a current generation 6 core 12 thread cpu.

So im looking at about a give or take £500 upgrade if i go with a i5 11600k, 16gb ram kit 3600mhz and a new motherboard. What motherboard would you recommend that has a good amount of features? Lots of ports, usb 3.1 gen 2 connectors etc.
And do you know what price people would pay for my cpu, ram, motherboard and cpu cooler combo?
