shadows is completely wrong.

yes you can upgrade it. you dont need to run a scanning software to know that its a socketed processor and can fit different processors.

heres how to remove the processor on this exact model: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Sony+VAIO+VPC-EB33FM+Fan+Replacement/12710
(it says fan replacement but your processor is right under the fan hardware and its several steps just to get there so this tutorial is the best.)
(also, dont trip over the specificity indicated like #00 screwdriver. use an eyeglass screwdriver youll be fine)

as for what you can put in there keep in mind the diminishing returns on overall usability with only 8gb max memory. id recommend the i7 with an additional flash memory module added, which can be partitioned off of a SDD harddrive. then that thingll KILL. pm me and ill fig it out for you.
definitely upgrade to 8gb if you are going for an i7 at least though.

you can equip these:
http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Intel_(chipsets)/HM55_Express.html

you can get an i7 extreme edition

shadows dont say stuff if you dont know what you are talking about.
