Ordered a GTX1660ti recently and awaiting delivery. Currently I run a i5-6400 with 16gb RAM. I am planning to upgrade CPU and finalized on getting a i5-9400F with a B365 mobo. My budget is around $250 to $270. I heard that AMD has better options in the price range. Can someone please suggest something in the price range ? TIA

PS : I need this for gaming. I play on 1080p as my monitor only supports 1080p.

Hi, you can skip the memory if your current kit is atleast 2x8GB DDR4 3000MHz or higher.

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor ($119.99 @ Walmart)
Motherboard: ASRock B450 Pro4 ATX AM4 Motherboard ($89.99 @ Amazon)
Memory: G.Skill Flare X 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory ($63.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $273.97
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Edited, better option.

Thank you for the response. 2600X costs around $220 in India. Is it worth over i5-9400F (costs around $160) from a performance perspective ?

BTW I am using a 450w PSU which I bought recently and hopefully I don't have to change it.

In that case you can get the Ryzen 5 2600 instead (wont be much of a diference in performance between the two). And cheaper memory option which will work the same:

Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory (₹7535.00 @ Amazon India)

Whats your PSU brand and model?

The intel 9400F is not abad CPU, but depending on what games you like to play it may be worth it to go with the Ryzen 5 2600, What do you plan to play ?

I have a Circle Raw Power 450w. I play most of the latest AAA games. Getting my machine ready for RDR2, Watch Dogs Legion and Cyberpunk 2077. Most of the times, I play Divison and Forza Horizon 4.
