Question Upgrade suggestions from I5-8400 to ...... for gaming?

I recently installed a RTX 3070 and now I'm feeling the urge to upgrade my I5-8400 especially when I realized BFV was pegging my cpu at 100%. This may be a BFV issue and not normal after reading other users seeing the same cpu spike with faster cpus.

So not having the money to do a new MB/CPU/Ram replacement is there a CPU that fits the 1155 socket that will provide a nice upgrade that will carry me for another year or so?

If there are none, what are current recommended upgrade options or best bang for the buck gaming CPUs that would also be an upgrade to my 8400? I'll have to save and do it later this year.

What motherboard do you have? Assuming you've got a 300 series motherboard and your PC isn't an OEM machine (so you'd have an Asus/MSI/Gigabyte/AsRock/etc mobo), you should be able to slot in a 9th gen i7.

MSI Z370, looking at the specs it should take MSI Z370 compatible CPUs

I currently have in my Amazon cart and trying to decide:

I7-8700
I7-9700
I7-9700K

Or is there a better option at a similar price of $350?

9700K or KF on sale could be a nice boost!

Personally would go ahead and go all the way to 9900K if you can swing with along with a good cooling solution.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm closer to a decision. I just need to figure out if the I9 9900k is worth $100 more than the I7 9700K

I'm now further from a decision. I didn't realize I my cooler master 212 heat sink was not good enough for an I9 9900k and requires another purchase.

I didn't really want to do a whole MB/CPU/MEM replacement due to cost so this is where Im at.

1. If I can do an AMD build that is a decent upgrade for the price of a I9 9900k and cooler I will.

or

2. I7 9700K, is the cooler master heatsink good enough for it?

or

3. stick with buying the I9 9900K and cooler since it will carry me for over another year
