Upgrade to 4k or stick with 1440p?

I just bought a 980Ti, and now I'm looking at getting a new monitor. I've had an ASUS PB278Q 2560x1440 for almost a year now, and I'm trying to decide if I should make the move to 4k or stick with 1440p and get a high refresh rate monitor. These are the two monitors I was looking at (I want to move to G-Sync):

Acer 4k: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009658
Acer 1440p 144Hz: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009742

(I really wish ASUS would just release their ROG Swift 4k and 1440p IPS 144Hz monitors already 🙁 )

I have no interest in a TN panel since the colors look like garbage. I've never played on a 4k display before, so my question is would I be better off sticking with 1440p and a high refresh rate, or upgrading to 4k? I know a single 980Ti won't be able to push either monitor to it's max abilities, but I can always get another card if I need it.

I Think it comes down to what would prefer; the high refresh rate or the nice sharp 4kness also the 4k one you are looking at has g sync so thats great (but so does the 1440) I would explore other options as well such as the curved market etc

I've been looking at ultrawide monitors, but I really want G-Sync, and I don't know of any ultrawides at that resolution that have G-Sync. I've never used anything above 60Hz before, so I'm really trying to figure out if an upgrade to > than 60Hz is worth it, or if I should just go to 4k and stay with 60Hz.

Well, I've never even seen anything above 60Hz, so I'm trying to figure out if the high refresh rate G-Sync is worth it over the upgrade to 4k, if there even is any with windows scaling.

If it had G-Sync, then it would be the perfect monitor. I really hate screen tearing, and G-Sync is pretty much a requirement for me for a new monitor.

1440 no doubt. At least until 4k monitors are large enough for 4k to even matter. You currently have to sit pretty close to be able to not waste your money after buying one. What it does is basically allows you to sit closer to the monitor, without losing sharpness, which is directly related to viewing distance.

I have good vision, so I'd be able to read a 27" 4k monitor without any real issues. The main thing that I'm trying to figure out is if 144Hz is worth it over a pixel upgrade?
