Upgrade to 7th gen core i7 CPU

Hi. I am a relative novice in PC building and I recently upgraded my HP phoenix's RAM (to 24GB), GPU to GTX 1080 and PSU to Seasonic X750 750W 80+ Gold Certified. I want to upgrade my CPU from a core i7 4790 to the new 7th generation core i7.

1) is it worth it?
2) do I need a new motherboard?
3) do I need to supply any further information for my question to be answered?

I would say it's not worth it.
You won't see a big performance increase...
You need a board with socket type 1151.

So a board with a processor socket: LGA1150 will not work?

You won't see enough of a performance increase to justify it. You likely won't notice any difference at all.

No it won't. 5th gen and above use socket 1151.
The 8th gen (coming in 2018) will probably use something else.

5th-gen uses LGA 1150. 6th-gen and 7th-gen use socket LGA 1151.
