Hey guys, so the background of this is that I've been wanting a new graphics card for quite some time (currently running a EVGA GTX 660) but haven't been able to afford a good upgrade due to moving in with my girlfriend, rent, bills, car etc.
Anyway my birthday is coming up, and my girlfriend 'accidentally' revealed she was looking at getting me a graphics card, but was going to reveal it on the day of my birthday and then we'd order it then. She's budgeted around £210. I'll add some money myself so that I can afford either the 1060/1070.
I've wanted a 1070 for a while, but prices are still £400+, I'll have birthday money from family as well as savings which I have put aside, but my question is do I use money from elsewhere to go up to a 1070? Or is it worth just getting the 1060?
I don't know enough about the cards to make this decision, but want to make sure I don't regret it. I'm leaning towards a 1070 but if the 1060 is close then would go for that.
My PC can run both. I do however only have one DVI monitor and one VGA, so I'd need an adapter. The DVI is for games, VGA is a second monitor where I put other stuff while I play.
I tend to play Overwatch, CS:GO, League of Legends and the odd other game. Obviously if games come out within the next 3-5 years which are more graphically demanding, I'd want to be able to comfortably play them too.
Can anyone lend a hand with helping me decide? I'm really stuck and in two minds completely as to which I want. Is it worth getting a 1070 when my monitors dont support 1440p and arent 144hz? Would the 1060 last me as long or would new games likely mean I'd be playing on medium settings in 3 years time?
Also can anyone suggest what manufacturers overclocked cards are best? Does it make a difference?
Thanks for your time!
EDIT: Worth noting VR doesn't interest me so much right now, I want to do what I did with my current card and keep it for 4-5 years though
