I have a g4560 right now and i want to upgrade it to the i5 7500 but the games i play i have no issue running them. Or wait until 9th gen intel cpus come out to upgrade. Another idea i had was sell my pc to a friend and get a good ryzen pc because i made the mistake of not buying an ssd and i dont have time to clone my hdd to the ssd

Solution
Yes, if you can get an 8400 for MSRP or lower and pair it with a relatively cheap H310/B360 or whatever mobo when they come out, that should be a great choice.

Prices for coffee lake seem to still be inflated due to low availability. The same thing could happen with 9th gen when it first comes out. You could always wait a bit for prices to settle down. Although you do get 50% more cores for your money with the i5 8400 compared to the i5-7400/Ryzen 1500X.

i dunno about that. the i3 8100 4/4 thread @3.6 for 120$ is pretty compelling.

For a new system builder yes, but given the fact the OP already has an LGA1151v1 mobo the total cost of an i3 8100 would be higher than a 7500, with the same performance.

What GPU do you have, and what resolution/refresh rate is your monitor?

You could get a Ryzen 1600 + B350 mobo for a little under 300 USD. Or you could get a i7 7700(K) for around the same price. For video editing, and possibly for streaming, the 1600 should do better. For gaming the 7700(K) would might do a bit better, but possibly only for high fps (100+) gaming.
