[SOLVED] Upgrade to FX8350

Hello,

I currently own an old Athlon X3, unlocked in a Phenom x4 b55, on MB : Asrock 870 extreme3 r2.0.
I want to upgrade the CPU, but keept the Motherboard. Will the MB be compatible with an FX8350?

On paper it is, but in real life the board is likely to suffer from VRM throttling. Save your money till you can get a full platform upgrade.

It's compatible if the BIOS is updated. I don't recommend this upgrade due to the boards poor power phase and VRM design. It won't be stable and will run too hot.

You'll end up having more problems than it's worth. Do not upgrade

I wold have the money for a new platform, the thing is that i would't invest in this right now. I use this PC like 2 hour/week maximum, i was looking to change the CPU just to get the SSE4.x instruction set. A FX-6300 would be more appropriate? Or a FX-4320? I could get one for a bargain (25 $)

A 95w cpu like the 6300 or 4320 should be OK with that board.

I would get the 6300. Even if you're a light gamer most games will use 6 cores or more.

The 4320 would a small improvement.
