I have a Gateway DX4850-27E Core i5-2300 Quad-Core 2.8GHz 6GB 1.5TB DVD±RW Windows 7 Home Premium w/HDMI. I need suggestions on what i should upgrade. looking at spending $600.

Definitely agree on the Seasonic recommendation, I'd recommend this one to save a little cash and have some extra headroom:

First, check your power supply wattage and make sure it can support a video card. Then, get a video card. Then try it out in a game and see how it does. If it isn't performing to the full capability that the card should, then upgrade the CPU to eliminate the bottle neck.

I was lucky enough to have a 400w PSU with my i7 that ran both my R6850 & GTX670 videocards, I ended up getting a new PSU for my 780ti oc but if you have like a 350w or less I would update PSU, you have a decent CPU. I'd get a gtx 770/780 and new PSU if need be.
