Upgrade to geforce (gamestream) on budget

I'm currently runing a Radeon R7 2gb 128bit card
I'm looking to upgrade to a geforce card so that I can use gamestream and moonlight.
Trying to keep the budget around $100 or less if possible but if it's not worth it until $150 range I'll hold out and do that.
What's my best option? Newegg has some cards for 50-90$ but they seem like a bit of a downgrade...or too similar to count as an upgrade.

Unfortunately, about $140 or so is the range where the upgrade actually becomes worthwhile.

If you're in the US, here's a sorted list, 1050Ti 4GB, and RX 570 and 580 both 4 and 8 GB variants, as well as 1060 6GB.

I've skipped on the 1060 3GB as there are starting to be situations in a few games (so far very few) where the 1050Ti's greater VRAM allows it to outperform the 1060 3GB.

Below these cards, though, you're not getting much of an upgrade. In fact, I'd probably recommend against even the 1050Ti, seeing as the 570 will easily outperform it, and can be had for less than the 1050Ti.

Thank you for your reply - the main purpose of this upgrade is to use geforce's Gamestream ability to play games remotely using something like moonlight.
if I'm not mistaken all of the Radeon cards do not have this ability?
So on that list the ony card that would be an option would be that 1050ti? (or the 1060)

Yeah, that looks like that would be the case. AMD has Remote Play, which appears to be the same thing, but for systems with AMD cards.


I have not used GameStream, Moonlight, or Remote Play, so couldn't say if there's one better than the other for any reason.

The only thing i see about remote play is that it's for Playstation 4.
If there was an option for amd cards that would be great!
the game stream ability allows you do play your PC games remotely.

I am not 100% clear on that - I got the impression it is for streaming to mobile devices, but I've only given it a brief glimpse here:

I'm not quite clear if it's just for streaming to the remote devices or if it allows remote play like the name suggests.

I agree.. reading that over, I'm not sure either.
It seems to be VR device enabled remote viewing... and its for windows 10 only.. and there are only a few cards supported. I think it's also only for local network usage.

Might be, and while they do mention smartphones and other devices, it *sounds* like remote viewing only.

It couldn't hurt to maybe get on the AMD forums and ask for clarification. Nvidia does make good video cards, but, in the low range and mid range they're typically more expensive than an AMD card with the same or slightly better performance.
