Hey guys,
I am planning to upgrade my pc with either the GTX 970 or the R9 390.
Usually , I'd prefer the R9 390 due to the 8GB VRAM and higher performance but I'm not exactly sure whether it is the better option in my case ..
My current Build is:
Case: Sharkoon Vg5-W
GPU: HD 7770
CPU: Intel core i5 3450
PSU: Cooler Master GX 450W
SSD: Sandisk Plus 480GB
Except for the case and ssd all parts are already in use for 3 years.
I'm gaming in 1080p at the moment , though I'm not sure whether I'll upgrade to 1440p or not.
My main issue with the R9 390 is that I'll definitely need to buy a new psu (I've got the Seasonic S12 620W in mind) and that it would almost touch the SSD Cage in my case. Which isn't exactly benefiting if it becomes hot.
Is it still worth buying the R9 390 or should I just buy the GTX 970?
I live in Germany and the prices in my preferred shop (Cyberport) are 330 euros for the GTX 970, 344 euros for the R9 390 and 74 euros for the Seasonic S12 620W PSU (80+ Bronze). I don't know whether I'll oc either of the cards because I never did that..

Solution
Even for the 970 your PSU falls a little short. I would suggest consulting the Tom's Hardware PSU Tier List (http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html) to find a good PSU, since the Seasonic S12 is an OK PSU, but for a bit more you could get a more reliable PSU like the EVGA Supernova (not a must, but would be nice). I would go for a new PSU either way, because it does look like it's time to upgrade that PSU, and a good PSU can last you for many years. As for 970vs390, the 390 usually comes out on top, so I would go for that.

Ohh okay, if I need to upgrade it anyways, the R9 390 seems to be the better choice. Does a Seasonic 620w PSU suffice for the R9 390? And do I need to worry about the length of the card? My case has 31cm of space for graphics cards and the R9 390 has a length of 30,8 cm.
I COULD remove the SSD cage to get 38,5 of space for the gpu and lay my ssd into the hdd cage but do you think that it is neccessary?

It might be necessary and it might not. I personally don't have any experience with that case, so I don't know how much slack there is in those specs. But I don't see why removing the SSD cage should hold you back from installing your preferred GPU if you have extra space in the HDD cage anyway. And BTW SSDs can be mounted however you like, since they are solid state and have no moving parts. so you can just hot glue your SSD to the ceiling of your case if you feel like it.

You are probably right, that's the first time I'm getting a strong GPU that's why I'm not really confident when it comes to decisions :)
Thanks for your help guys, I'll be buying the Sapphire R9 390 Nitro and the Seasonic S12 620w. (Can't really afford a more expensive psu because I still need to spend a lot of money this month :/ )
