Hey guys, I need a little help. A friend of mine asked me to upgrade his computer with some parts he bought. The current specs are:

CPU: AMD FX 8350
M/B: MSI Gaming 970
GPU: Sapphire HD3850 1G DDR2
PSU: Corsair CX500 500W
RAM: 8 gigs, 1 stick
HDD: Cavair Blue 500gb, 2 of these

Everything in the build is new except for the GPU and the hard drives. I have gone through this thread stickied here and attempted every step listed and am still having issues.

The problem is that the computer won't start (shocker). If I boot it up with only the power cord plugged in, I get 5 quick beeps which research told me could be a processor error or any number of other things. However, if I get into the BIOS before the beeps, they don't sound and the BIOS screen loads up without a problem. From here, I can get to the screen that asks me to either start windows normally or run the repair program. Starting normally brings up the windows loading bar for a brief second before the computer resets. Launching the repair leads to a few minutes of it repairing then saying it cannot solve the problem and restarting.

I have attempted reseating everything on the motherboard, I have made sure all the cables are plugged in all the way, the CPU is not visibly damaged and the fan is running. I'm somewhat experienced with building computers, but all the ones I've built before have been completely new builds and I have no idea where to go from here. Any advice you can give is greatly appreciated.

Solution
What was the old mobo and CPU? Since there's an OS on the hdd.

If it was different to what you have now, you should do a clean install. Otherwise you'll have probs later

I'm embarrassed to say that I don't actually know. I didn't think to check what they were after I removed them and I no longer have them. They were fairly old though, probably running Vista. Thanks for the quick reply, I didn't even think about that. I'll try it.
