I just installed a new R9 290X earlier (replacing Xfire 6950s) and after installing the new drivers (i uninstalled previous drivers), sound no longer worked.

I've changed onboard audio to enabled in bios, I've uninstalled and reinstalled all drivers, I've made sure the AMD HDMI Audio driver is uninstalled, I've updated Realtek drivers, I've made sure my default playback device is my speakers. The equalizer shows audio input going through but no sound. I know these speakers work. No sound through headphones through front audio jack either.

I had no problem prior to installing this card.

I have followed these steps. In device manager the only sound driver is the realtek. still no sound. Speakers are selected as default playback device. I am connected through the back with the green 3.5mm jack. Equalizer still shows audio playing but no sound from speakers.

High Definition Audio Device (Speakers) is the default playback device.

I reinstalled the audio driver from the CD that came with motherboard. Now the only audio driver in device manager is High Definition Audio Device and Intel Display Audio.

Also when I plug in my headphones to front jack it recognizes the headphones but is flickering in and out on the Playback device selection screen as if its connecting and disconnecting. When the headphones are unplugged it stop flickering.

Update:

I just purchased and installed a sound card and now I am getting sound through the speakers.

Why is this now working?!

It's always been on there, Intel HD Graphics 3000, even with previous cards, but has been disabled.

I have also removed the intel display audio previously and that did nothing.

I am getting a constant low level static background noise with the new sound card. I would love to get my on board working to get rid of this thing.

Anyone have any other suggestions??

I'm going through the same thing. Thought my motherboard(990fx) had died so I put my older Asus board back in and it's doing the same thing.

No audio from any jack and the sliders are bouncing but no sound....
