Question Upgrade to Ryzen or intel

Hi, I currently have a fx-8350 I was wondering wether I should upgrade to Ryzen or intel, I could either get the Ryzen 5 2600 or intel 8100, I have a gtx 970 gpu which I will be keeping, which should I change to or if anyone has any other suggestions around the same price mark let me know thank you.

To be honest, I would recommend the Ryzen 5 2600. Since AMD hasn't locked the processor down from overclocking you could get that baby going with the proper cooling. This would allow you to squeeze more out of the processor compared to the locked i3. Eventually, you will need to upgrade your gtx970 as you will be noticeably bottlenecked by it but the 2600 should allow you to upgrade to a 1060 or 1070 in the future without the cpu being the bottleneck in the system. For the extra $30-40 that you will spend on the Ryzen you are futureproofing your system. If you happen to have a Microcenter nearby, I would mention that they have the R5 1600 on sale for $79.99 AND offer a deal where you get $30 off a compatible motherboard. It's not just a deal, it's a steal. Would probably pair it with a 4xx motherboard and then ride out (till) the Ryzen 3xxx release for specs and price.

I would take the 2600 over the 8100. Intel has a little bit better single core performance, but the gap is not too far and the 2600 comes with many more threads. As punkcat said, if you live near a Microcenter, grab a 1600 for $80 as that price can be beaten.

Yeah, around the price range, the Ry2600 is hard to beat. Specially when you can use a relatively cheap motherboard with it. Just make sure you get fast ram (as budget allows) and a decent cooler.

Thanks for all your replies that is a really good Deal for the 1600 but unfortunately I am in the UK so I've no hope of getting it for that price

The MSI B450 Tomahawk is a decent boad for the price.

Without overclocking, the Intel 8400F would be a bit faster than both of those. If you overclock the Ryzen 2600 though, it will equal or surpass the 8400F. You may want to hold off doing anything for a few months until Ryzen 3000 arrives.

Overclockers.co.uk always has some good combos and discounts you can pick. Just keep an eye on their page from time to time and you'll find some bargains.
