hello

currently running windows7 on an older 2012 dell inspiron 64bit with 6gb ram (i3-2120 3.3ghz)
i hear it is still possible to upgrade to 10 for free somehow.

is this worth it or likely to cause frustrations?
thanks

That system should run Win 10 without issue.

And yes, you can almost certainly still upgrade to Win 10 for free.

Also make a Microsoft account and register you windows 7 to the account.
If you do have problems you will be able to activate through the activation troubleshooter.
After you activate you can create an offline account with auto login etc...

just the standard 1tb OS drive
and an extra installed backup drive

is the microsoft account really necessary?
Yes. That is what controls the OS license.

It does NOT have to be used all the time.
My systems have an MS account, a local Admin, and a local Standard user.
The MS account is only used if I need to work with the license, or download/install something from the MS Store.
