Upgrade to xeon X3480

Hi,

I'm planning to upgrade my system, install a xeon x3480. But I don't know that if there is any compatibility issue. My system's config is

Intel core i3-540 3.06GHz
ECS H55H M motherboard
Transcend DDR3 1333MHz 8GB (2x4GB) ram

But it's well known for most mobos to not list xeons when they do work.

The xeon x3480 supports lga1156 sockets, just like the core i3-540 and also core i7-880 (also in consideration). But the i7-880 price around twice or more than the xeon x3480 while both have the same architecture and most of the specifications. Thus I'm considering xeon x3480. As per Intel's official website, h55 chipset is not listed as compatible with xeon x3480, but I saw people using the same processor in h55 motherboards from gigabyte. I'm not sure if I can do the same, and there I need expert suggestion.

Google does come up with someone using a x3430 on that mobo but still we can not give a sure yes or no. Use at your own risk.
